MG CYBERSTER HITS THE ROAD FOR A 10,000 MILE ADVENTURE
- MG’s dramatic new all-electric roadster will drive a 10,000 mile route from London to Shanghai, to mark the manufacturer’s 2024 centenary year
- The Cyberster will be driven by the identical twin British adventurers, Ross and Hugo Turner
- The cross continental expedition will traverse England, Scotland and Wales before heading overseas to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
A pre-production design model of MG’s revolutionary all electric sports car, the Cyberster, has hit the road for a unique seven-month journey from London to Shanghai; an adventure that will see the two-seat convertible drive over 10,000 miles across continents to mark MG’s centenary in 2024.
The Cyberster is piloted by British identical twin adventurers, Ross and Hugo Turner, whose expeditions include rowing across the Atlantic Ocean and traversing Greenland’s Ice Cap.
Unfazed by range anxiety, the road trip will allow MG fans across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, India and China to see and experience the Cyberster’s leading-edge interior and exterior styling, and witness the technical capabilities of the dual motored car..
The world’s first commercially available two-seat convertible EV might not seem like the first pick for two brothers attempting a 10,000 mile journey. However, this is just the latest expectation-defying undertaking for the professional adventurers and their personal mission to help people to learn about our world through new technology and purposeful expeditions.
Ross Turner said: “When Hugo was 17, he sustained a broken neck and after six months of surgery, that kind of spurred us on to travel the world and was the start of our first big adventure back in 2011 when we rowed the Atlantic.”
Crossing the finish line in Shanghai in 2024, the ultimate test drive of the world’s first EV roadster, will mark the centenary year for the brand that originally began trading in Oxford as Morris Garages; now known around the world as MG.
Fittingly for one of Britain’s iconic automotive brands, London’s Westminster Bridge was the start line for the cross-continental tour that will first see the adventurers tour the length and breadth of the UK.
The first pit stop on the epic EV journey was joining the MG Owners’ Club in Cambridge. The all-electric MG Cyberster convertible then led a rally of its classic car relatives, including a prized ancestor, a 1920s roadster.
The Cyberster then travelled as far north as the Forth Bridge, before setting the satnav for the English Channel. Naturally, one of the final waypoints for this leg of the tour will be a visit of MG’s birthplace in Oxford.
After travelling through Europe, the new year will see the brothers reunited with the car in the Middle East before travelling onwards to India, the Far East and journey’s end, Shanghai.
Guy Pigounakis, Commercial Director of MG Motor UK said: “We’re thrilled to see the Cyberster embark on this momentous journey in celebration of MG’s centenary year in 2024, and to demonstrate the brand’s commitment to driving the future of electrification. We’re excited to be introducing MG customers across the globe to a new generation of high-performance MGs.”
