MG expands in Europe: where are we for sale and where soon?

18-02-2021
MG has been relaunched in mainland Europe with a clear mission. The renewed brand is committed to making electric mobility accessible to drivers who are young at heart and ready to embark on a new electric lifestyle. MG is here to stay, as we say! We started our sales operations late 2019 and have been on a rise in Europe ever since. Find out in which countries MG is for sale and what to expect in the near future.

MG Motor Europe started its journey in mainland Europe in The Netherlands, where MG’s European headquarter is based. Here, we got off to a flying start thanks to a lot of interest in our first model, the MG ZS EV. The tone was set immediately.

In February 2020, we took the next step with our market launch in Norway. An important move, as Norway is the world’s leading electric vehicle market. Just like in The Netherlands, we quickly reached the top 5 of best-selling EVs in the country. The MG ZS EV cannot be ignored from the Norwegian street scene ever since, as the number of registrations has already passed 4,000.

Soon afterwards, we entered Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Iceland and Luxembourg. We started our operations in France in January 2020, where we aim to have 80 operational MG brandstores by the end of 2021.

This year, we started sales in Germany. Also an exciting market, as Germany is the second largest (PH)EV market in the world, after China. With around 398,000 BEVs and PHEVs sold in 2020, the country accounts for about 1 in 8 worldwide sold (PH)EVs. Like in France and other countries, the network will expand considerably. Eventually, MG will offer full coverage to guarantee a nearby MG brandstore for sales and after sales for all customers across Germany.

Italy, Spain, Portugal, Sweden and more

We now have more than a hundred MG brandstores up and running throughout Europe. But it doesn’t stop here, obviously. In Italy, commercialisation will start on March and the network appointed is wide from the north to the center of Italy in Piemonte, Lombardia, Veneto, Trentino, Emilia e Romagna, Umbria, Toscana and Lazio. In the second half, also in the south.

Then in Spain (first in Madrid, Barcelona, Gerona, Valencia, Palma de Mallorca, later in other major cities) and in Portugal. Followed by Sweden in the third quarter of 2021. Switzerland, Finland and Eastern Europe will eventually follow as well. Meanwhile, it is important to continuously monitor where the infrastructure for charging electric cars is well organized. Based on this, we can adjust and optimize our European expansion strategy.

One thing is certain. We work with and look for partners who have the best contacts, locally, regionally and nationally. We want to work with the best automotive companies who know how to provide their customers with excellent service in the field of sales and after sales of new energy vehicles.
